The Haiku Challenge 2012 – Day 18 – Famine
Feb 18
The prompt for Day 18 is the word Famine.
Famine
Cracked earth tiled for miles
thirsts for a drop of water
waits disillusioned.
Hungry eyes, parched lips.
Empty heart yearns. Dreams of an
Affectionate kiss
An absence of love
No kindness or compassion
An unfulfilled life.

Hi Vidya,
I love this haiku! You paint the picture with your words about the devastation a famine an cause. It’s hard to imagine, but we know that life can be so unkind. Thank you for sharing your beautiful poetry.
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.-Dalai Lama
You’re absolutely right, Unknown Mami. The Dalai Lama’s quotes are words to live by. Thank you!
Vidya….
Each one you write pulls at my heartstring…especially this phrase….
