Traveling To The Far East In Style

far east travel vidya sury

A couple of decades ago, when I had a corporate career, one of the biggest incentives for top performers in the company at the end of the year was a trip to the far east. Sadly, the year I qualified, the company was on an expense cutting spree and the reward was shelved for a trip closer home.

Fortunately, today I have the freedom to dream of exotic travel destinations. I enjoy reading about them and this makes the anticipation of a trip that much more enjoyable. I have a growing wishlist and Singapore and the Far East are definitely on it.  Also, it is always good to know useful travel tips before actually visiting a place – especially another country.

For instance, if you’re preparing to travel to the Far East region of the world, you’ll need to be well prepared before your plane leaves the ground. You’ll need to have a precise itinerary of each of your destinations, as well as all of the usual preparations, such as having your passport and identification papers in order. It’s certainly a good idea to bring along a phrase book that will allow you to communicate a few basic words to the people you meet on the street outside of the hotel. It is so much fun learning a new language!

Travel Light, Travel Safe

You’ll want to travel as lightly as possible, since airline baggage handling fees have recently shot through the roof. Security concerns have certainly added to the rapid and radical increase in price but, whatever the precise reason may be, it’s safe to say that prices have risen dramatically, and aren’t likely to come down any time soon.

In the meantime, it’s an excellent idea to bring a single suitcase and one carry on flight bag to avoid paying exorbitant baggage fees that can threaten to drain your wallet even before you reach your intended destination. After all, what’s the point of traveling even as far as the block down the street if you’re sure to be broke by the time you get there?

What Does The Far East Have To Offer?

Who doesn’t want to visit the Far East region, which includes such perennial visitor destinations as Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and many other noted cities? Thousands of guide books have attempted to describe the riches and natural scenery of this region, but few have ever truly succeeded – after all, seeing is believing!

Even if you are traveling to the East for purely business reasons, you will still have plenty of time to take in quite a bit of the city’s natural hustle and bustle when you aren’t actually sitting in the conference room. Of course you will want to wander outside for a bit and take in some of the city’s activities, visit a local restaurant, and sample some of the native cuisine.

Whatever your reasons for traveling to a city in the Far East region, you’re bound to have a memorable experience. Savor the sights and sounds of the city, and be sure to record plenty of cell phone footage to help you commemorate the occasion.

Packing light is very important, as I’ve found out the hard way, Birgit. I remember, once, years ago, during the days of the hard suitcase – I had overpacked, was late for my train and as I ran down the platform to reach my coach in time, my suitcase simply burst forth. Gosh, so embarrassing – and I desperately tried to stuff everything back in 🙂
