I am a voracious reader and for the past three days, I’ve been enjoying catching up on my reading. My family often teases me to say that I’ve got enough books to last me a life time. I agree.
Sometimes I fantasize about doing nothing but reading all day! I imagine waking up, making my fabulous coffee and settling down to read. Then, taking a break to tackle all those essential mundane things like cooking, cleaning up and racing through emergencies, if any – and then coming back to read. Perhaps someone would keep up a supply of food and coffee and nudge me…and so the day would wear on.
Funnily enough, I played out my fantasy to a large extent today. I was on a mission to finish a book I had started reading. Few things are capable of motivating me to finish up chores on the double like an interesting book. I had everything wrapped up quickly, including work and settled down to read. Ah, the satisfaction!
Growing up, I’ve enjoyed many many wonderful books. I owe the reading habit to my Mom and Uncles. We had a massive library at home – in fact, an entire floor was devoted to books. Since ours was a joint family, everyone had responsibilities and I remember how we would vie for anything that involved the library! We were ever ready to do things there – catalog books, clean the place, dust the shelves, anything in return for a book.
So many lovely hours spent in the shade of the terrace, with books. Happy times sharing books with friends and then discussing them to shreds.
I am never without a book (or two, usually). I enjoy reading two or three books at the same time.
Here are some inspiring quotes about reading that I really love. Enjoy them while I work on tomorrow’s post! It is great signing up for a daily blogging challenge, but after the initial week or so, the pressure builds up. Life intervenes. And life is so much fun, isn’t it?
Inspiring quotes about reading
One of my all-time favorites!
“For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.”
― Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life
‘If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.’ Stephen King
“Seeing someone reading a book you love is seeing a book recommending a person”
Ever experienced that?
I love to read!
Of course, ain’t no cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me!
And finally, “You can’t buy happiness but you can buy books..and that’s kind of the same thing!”
That pretty much sums up how I feel about reading.
What about you?
Got any inspiring quotes about reading to share?
What kind of books make you smile?

Wonderful quotes, Viya. There is so much goodness in reading for sure. I’ve been an avid reader most of my life. But now I read less because I want to live life directly and work with my own mind. I still love a good book now and then, but the pace has slowed down.

AWw I loved these book quotes. I love the one about how seeing someone reading a book you love is like that person being recommended to you hehe. I also agree with the Stephen King quote. I was at a coffee shop one time and a girl was reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. When she went to order I left her a note wishing her well and the book by Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coehlo and then I walked out of the coffee shop without talking to her or her noticing I left that. : D

I love those quotes, and I love reading! I need to learn to step away from my laptop and iPad more, though – they both distract me far too much and eat up precious reading time.

I love to read too! That may have been the energy to fuel my need to create and to write. Who knows? Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all.

Aah! Books! What would life be without them! I have read books for days with just taking breaks for regular stuff. Nothing like lazing in the bed and getting lost in the magical world of books. Love all the quotes you shared. My fav is the first one from Anne Lamott 🙂

Hi there i just love your awesome site very helpful content thanks a lot.
What a super collection of quotes. And about your fantasy, ditto! I’ve been living it off and on these last few days! Another fantasy growing up was to own a book store – just so I can read all the books in there! Seems like my Kindle is doing the job equally well! At the rate I’m downloading books, I might need another lifetime to finish them! 🙂

I dream of growing old exactly like that! 😀 Don’t worry. I’ll be right there with you to add to your collection. Looking forward to the next lifetime as well, now!
Awee…. such cute quotes and pictures. Saved them all. And you know what my present dream is … to open a Book-Cafe! Where you get loads of book and coffee… 😉

Love your post all about your reading passion and love the quotes. You know what a quote lover I am!
I love it when I have a book on the go that captivates me so much that I can’t pull myself away from it and just have to finish it. Not every book does that for me and often I give up on a book if it doesn’t pull me in.
I often get out a huge stack of library books in hopes of finding a gem beneath the rubble. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I always remain hopeful though.
Great post as always, Vidya!

An enjoyable post! That’s quite a great collection of reading quotes there, Vidya. I like the idea of ‘book recommending a person’ very much 🙂 One of my favourite quotes about books/reading is by Oscar Wilde – “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.”
