I took the #Airtel4GSpeedTest and loved it.
First off, let me say I am a big fan of Airtel. I’ve been using their broadband connection since the year 2000. That’s 15 years of a great relationship!
Then I got my first mobile phone in 2003 with an Airtel 2G SIM card. Everyone in my family has one (or two) too. I fondly recall how even their 2G speeds were pretty good for checking email when I had to check mail on my phone in a pinch.
Then came 3G, bearing good news of smoother on-the-go data connections. So imagine my excitement when 4G popped up as a recommendation while topping up my data plan last week! Of course I procrastinated as usual.
Then Life gave me a bit of a push when I had to get my son a local SIM in Chandigarh to use on campus.
The Airtel vendor recommended a 4G SIM and since his phone was compatible, we got it. Next, he wanted to install WHATSAPP on it – such a convenient way to stay connected as he is going to be away from home. Naturally I want to know if he ate on time, if he is okay, if his classes went well, if he drank enough water….. oh you know the drill! When you have a smartphone, I believe that having the right apps makes all the difference, along with the data speed.
I happened to be browsing through my Twitter feed and saw tweets with the #Airtel4GSpeedTest. Curious, I dug deeper to learn that Airtel is running a first of its kind direct twitter response campaign where users tweet to Airtel in a given format to find out how long a particular app will take to download on 4g vs 3g vs 2g.

Couldn’t wait to get started.
We got the app installed in seconds and I am enjoying the results. The college campus is beautiful with a large variety of birds – some of you may have seen the photos I posted on Instagram and Facebook when I was there. I am now happily anticipating staying in touch with my son seamlessly, thanks to 4G. For his part, he is looking forward to browsing online and finding info quickly.

Indeed. I do know how fast Airtel 4G is! I followed the link in their tweet and here is what I saw: Check if you are 4G ready. I put in my phone number and here’s what I got
