Innocent Devotion

During our ‘Temple Trip” last week – one of the most beautiful sights I saw is in this picture I clicked. We were inside the Thiru Thulukanathamman Temple at Triplicane, Chennai. Within the temple were different sanctums – and outside one of them, on the sand, I saw these kids grouped around something. It was late evening and slightly dark, so naturally curiosity got the better of me and I headed over to see what they were up to.

What I saw touched me quite deeply. These kids had arranged some bricks and inside the enclosure, had placed a little idol of Lord Ganesa. In front of the Ganesa was an oil lamp which they were guarding from the breeze so that it could stay lit.  It was such a lovely sight with all those kids single-mindedly focused on keeping that lamp lit, that I couldn’t resist taking picture. So I requested them for permission to do so – and immediately they arranged themselves so that all of them could appear in the pic. After I clicked, I said ‘thanks’ to which I got the instant chorus of ‘welcome’. Nice eh? None of that ‘no mention’ nonsense here. I was impressed. Just look at the pic and the happy faces of these kids! Siblings – all of them.
I will share some more experiences related to my trip according to my heart’s priority – there is one thing that had me sobbing – and I am determined to do something about it. Next post….
