This super food packs a healthy punch. It’s no coincidence that Popeye’s strength had its foundation on a diet rich in spinach.
The health benefits of this easily-available green leafy vegetable are tremendous, and it is a powerhouse of energy. Spinach is chock-full of vitamins like Vitamin B, Iron, and Folate. Best of all it is low in calories – as in just 41 calories per cup.
How you can do this:
- Try to include at least two cups of spinach every week
- You can use spinach for soups, as a salad-base, pizza topping, pancake filling etc. But be cautious about the pizza bit, because pizzas are calorie rich in spite of being topped with healthy vegetables.
Easy recipe for spinach (Spinach is ‘Paalak’ in Hindi):
Wash and cook the leaves with a pinch of salt.
Cut the leaves roughly
Blend the leaves along with green chilly and salt (to taste)
Saute some jeera, asafoetida and mustard seeds in a spoon of oil and garnish the blended spinach with this.
