After being married for 17 years, I can safely say this
“Love doesn’t excuse our faults: it makes them insignificant”.
That’s what the celebration of love is all about. Loving each other no matter what. I feel blessed to admit I am happy. My family and I love and cherish each other.
As I bask in the joy of our seventeenth wedding anniversary, I am not going to rave about lessons learned or wax lyrical about relationships. I am just content to know in my heart that I am in a place where I want to be, with who I want to be. Someone who is happily tolerant about the way I am and loves me because of it. I reciprocate that love. I am conscious of what I have and I am grateful for it.
It has been a sad-happy time for us since Feb 8, 2010 when my Mom passed away suddenly. But as she would say, “Respect the dead, Celebrate the living“, we hug each other and continue to appreciate all that we have with love and gratitude.
We continue to marvel at the wonderful years we’ve been together. On our 15th wedding anniversary, I wrote a post titled “Secrets to a happy marriage” and I am glad to say I still believe in them.
And in celebration of love, my son took us out for lunch today. We had a pleasant time at our favorite restaurant. On the way back, as we walked, we tackled those little chores we always seem to have. There’s a little pet shop on that road and we stopped to gaze at the birds. Taking time to smell the flowers, in fact. Before we knew it, we had spent an hour there, bird-watching, in the warm sunshine, before we strolled back home.
The birds were delightful.

Vidya, A very happy anniversary to you all! I always count the kids because they are a lot of the reason why we marry in the first place (or at least, it was for me!) Don’t show my husband the birds 🙂
Wishing you many more years of togetherness, Vidya. God bless the two of you 🙂
I’m so happy you have so much love, joy, and enjoyment in your life, Vidya. Keep radiating all that goodness. We love it!
Happy Anniversary, Vidya & Sury! May you have many more!!
“Love doesn’t excuse our faults: it makes them insignificant”. Very true. Coincidentally, just a few days back, I mentioned that my closest friends and I can point out more of each other’s faults than our worst enemies ever can, but we still remain closest friends because we cherish each other’s good qualities and can live with each other’s faults!
Wishing you many more lovely years of joyful togetherness, Vidya! For me this line of yours sums it up, “I am just content to know in my heart that I am in a place where I want to be, with who I want to be.”
Congratulations Vidya and here’s wishing you many many more years of togetherness. I love your ‘I am happy’ ‘I am content’ posts. They always rub off on me. Thanks and hugs.
Happy Anniversary Vidya 🙂 Such a fun day you had! Wishing you many more years of such love and togetherness. Loved your post at Joy’s, my comments there!

I love the quote you posted at the beginning. So very true. I have not been married for 17 years, but I have been for almost 7, and I love my wife and all her faults as she does me and mine. We live in love and life together everyday to the fullest and enjoy every moment of each other.
Happy anniversary!
