Book Review The Healthy Juicer’s Bible

The healthy juicer's bible

Today, I am delighted to present my book review of The Healthy Juicer’s Bible: Lose Weight, Detoxify, Fight Disease, and Live Long by Farnoosh Brock as promised in my previous post. Farnoosh is someone I greatly admire. She is loving, inspiring and always thinks I Can. I mean, she thinks I Can! I am glad I have gotten into the juicing habit and am quite happy about it.

I was first introduced to juicing as a child. I’ve always enjoyed salads, raw vegetables and fruits. In fact, my favorite snack is a juicy tomato. As I grew up, fruit juices were a regular feature at home. Besides this, the juice of the bitter gourd, ginger, lemon,Β  carrots, radish were all home remedies for many ailments. Bitter gourd was especially good for weight management same could be said about coconut oil for weight loss. Neem juice was good for stomach problems. Fruits were our main snacks thanks to a family that believed in healthy living.

The funny thing is, I am not much of a juice drinker. I would much rather eat my fruits and vegetables. Yet, I do know that juices are healthy, convenient and sometimes, recommended when the body cannot process the fiber in the fruit or vegetable.

I have been reading about green juicing a lot, lately.Β  And so I decided to jump right in myself. A few months later,Β  I came across Farnoosh’s Green Juicing Clinic which sounded fascinating. I found her newsletters full of tips and recipes and I enthusiastically tried quite a few. While I haven’t been on what they call a β€œjuice fast”, I’ve certainly been enjoying the once a day nourishing juice, invariably made of onion, carrot, radish, spinach or whatever veg of the day is juiceable – and a dash of pepper.

When I heard Farnoosh was working on her book The Healthy Juicer’s Bible: Lose Weight, Detoxify, Fight Disease, and Live Long my first reaction was β€œWow!” and I coveted the book even before its launch. She offered me a review copy and I was naturally delighted.

The Healthy Juicer’s Bible by Farnoosh Brock

The healthy juicer's bible

This is a delightfully written, beautifully illustrated comprehensive juicing guide that is full of juicing recipes.Β  I know that Farnoosh has been a passionate green juicer for a few years now and she has packed in all she knows along with her discoveries and best tips into it.

To quote the Amazon description, β€œShe gives you the good, the bad, and the ugly so you can make smart and informed decisions as you learn how to heal your body and return it to harmony using healthy plants from your farmer’s market, garden, or produce aisle.”

Farnoosh also answers a number of valid questions such as how people with sensitive stomachs can adapt to green juicing, how to stay motivated when the initial shine wears off and how to stay faithful to green juicing. The book includes nutritional information and the benefits of juicing, making it a great companion for those keen on healthy living.

What to Expect from The Healthy Juicer’s Bible?

A total walk-through on all the nitty gritty details of juicing for the beginner and advanced juicer.
50 juicing recipes including delicious pulp recipes (who said you must throw away the pulp, darling?)
How to improvise, modify and create your own original recipes.
All facets of juice fasts, detox and cleansing.
How to build juicing as a sexy smart habit in your life.

Why I love The Healthy Juicer’s Bible

I am thrilled to say that The Healthy Juicer’s Bible totally lives up to its name – when the word β€œbible” is in a book’s title, expectations run high and I say that if you care even a little about your health, this book is a must-have on your shelf – that shelf where you keep all your frequently referred books.

I do have a confession to make, though. In spite of knowing that juicing is good for health, I was a little skeptical, fueled by a little laziness. But Farnoosh makes everything sound so easy and fun and I was motivated to make the effort. I was pleasantly surprised to feel energized and this helped me continue juicing. The book is very specific with detailed information on WHY and how to get started.

Farnoosh also shows you how to choose a juicer. Naturally, with anything one does in the kitchen, being organized is key and there are step by step instructions to do this. As I write this, I am drooling thinking of the vegetable, fruit and veg+fruit blend recipes described.

We all tend to get excited about a new habit, but keeping it going requires motivation and Farnoosh gently shows you how to keep juicing. My favorite parts of the book are:

  • shopping for ingredients – I love to visit the vegetable market
  • the lovely quotes
  • the juice fast, more like a Juice Feast to me!
  • the attractive photos which are a visual treat

If you are tired of sweating it out at the gym and feel frustrated about that weighing scale refusing to budge past the point where you got started, if you long for a healthy way to manage your weight and feel energized on an ongoing basis, this book is for you.

Learn how to juice, go on a detox fast and build the juicing habit.Β

And enjoy the benefits!

Once again, I have to mention the fabulous photos in the book. Visual motivation works for me, and that alone would be enough to keep me inspired! Not to mention the pleasure of preparing the juice!

The intro talks volumes, thanks again for introducing a wonderful and prolific writer of health related tips, I am so glad to join in this group Juicers!!!
I had the impression that if take juice only the fiber content will miss, but I am sure the section mentioned here talks…50 juicing recipes including delicious pulp recipes (who said you must throw away the pulp, darling?)will remove that impression.

Juicing is huge here right now…but people are too busy / lazy to blend their own, so they go to ‘shake shops.’ My daddy goes everyday and orders one w/ peanut-butter, flax seed, and chai. Yes. they are expensive.

Love you more than chai tea. XXxxxx

It is the same here, Kim! Buying it is very expensive. Making it at home is healthier and inexpensive.

Love you more than my favorite juice – Tomato.

I really haven’t tried juicing at home, Vidya. I know when I went to Jindal’s Nature Cure, I was on a fruit and juice diet. I found however that this cannot and must not be sustained. I’m sure Farnoosh’s recipes would make good add-ons to an already healthy diet.

As far as juice fasts go, they are for limited periods, naturally. Juicing on a regular basis makes a great supplement to a decent diet. (I say decent, because God knows my diet is not perfect!) Living on juices, uh uh. πŸ™‚ At Jindal, did they focus on specific fruits or vegs? Thanks for chiming in!

I love juices and drink a lot of them each day. Especially fruit ones with strawberries. They’re not only delicious but healthy Vidya. And so nutritious.

The best part about Farnoosh’s book is how easily accessible to people who have no idea what juicing is. And as easy to read and follow along as her blog. Great review!
