Looking Around Me

As I gear up for week 2 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge July 2014, I am also taking time to chill with my folks and notice what’s happening around me. The painting and renovation of our building is almost complete with the finishing touches going on. The rains have arrived, heavy on some days and playing hide and seek on others.

I’ve been catching up on my reading, oh the joy of reading!

I’ve been cooking a lot, preparing stuff to preserve and make our lives easier.

I took a walk around our area and shot a few photos. No long post today. Let’s get on with the photos already!

I walk on my terrace every evening and it is a delight to be there. So grateful to have that huge space to walk and enjoy nature! I can never get enough of these kites in the sky. Sometimes they fly so low, I keep expecting them to peck my head! Yeah right!

They circle the sky for an hour in groups, moving from spot to spot around the skies. Sometimes I wish I was there, flying with them, gliding with the wind, going where it takes them.

This mynah was so brave. Kept hopping around, unconcerned,Β  even though I got close. Friendly chap!

And these? Common sight around our area. There are several white donkeys that sedately walk around as part of our lives. I love to see the baby donkeys!

Recently they cut a few trees around our building. We were so sad. But the power of nature is so marvelous – we saw the trunks bloom – fresh green leaves have begun to appear. What a sense of hope!

Another one

This one is my favorite though! A couple of weeks back, it looked like that stump would always look bare. But now, look at those pretty green leaves!

Some plants have been planted alongside the compound wall. They’re coming along pretty well!

Did you look around your area this week? What did you notice?

What made you smile?

Have a great week ahead.

Thank you for your presence here today! β™₯

Thank you for giving us a little insight into your surroundings and your daily life. Great photos. What a good idea to make your meals ahead. Made a huge pot of curry last night and thought of my dear, new Indian friends. πŸ™‚

Thank you, Carol! I don’t cook the meals in advance. I make the mixes and powders I use in cooking. I also make stuff that can be mixed with hot rice and eaten – dinner is usually a one-dish meal πŸ™‚ But I do make a meal-plan for the week, as it helps me shop and prepare. πŸ˜€

The area where I live, we can see peacocks walking around randomly… occasionally, people have seen snakes too though so it ain’t always good to be around nature! πŸ˜€

Lovely clicks Vidya. The first two pictures look like someone’s sprinkled black paint on a piece of cloth.

The heavy rains paid off with the beautiful green blossoms. The trees will be full and lush in no time.

Hi Vidya,
Those are some great kite-pics you’ve got there.
They are soaring ,not just on your blog page but also on our hearts as we watch them on our computer screens.
Incredible moment you’ve captured there;nimbus clouds and all.

I enjoyed this slice of life from your neighbourhood, Vidya. The donkeys brought back memories of our trip to Greece. They were commonplace there too. Nice to see a barren stump sprout new growth. Cheers!

I am always fascinated by the donkeys, Debbie. They stand around so sedately, sometimes in the middle of the road, oblivious to traffic. We always wonder why there are so many in our neighborhood and then laugh our heads off when we think of birds of a feather….. πŸ˜€ Thanks for dropping by! And yes, I do love the Bee Gees!

Loved your pictures. Each one of them brought my own memories. I remember in school we used to dread the kites. They do fly too close for comfort. It was normal for at least some tiffins to be snatched up and we’d be nursing ugly scratches as well! As for mynahs-they’re one cheeky bird community. Loved the fresh new sprouts on trees. Good to see the green coming back. As for those dark black clouds – they seem to have given Pune a complete miss this year. :-((
