Do The Slow Dance

slow dance vidya sury 2

Today, let’s just breathe. Sometimes, it is nice to just…

slow down

close your eyes

relax

let peace flow through your body

smell the flowers

put your feet up

gaze out of the window

walk in your garden

play with your pet

laugh with your family

enjoy a cup of coffee with your friend

call that cousin you’ve been meaning to talk to

go for a walk

watch the sun rise

watch the sun set

feel the warmth of the sun

be grateful

forgive someone even if they’re not sorry

hug someone

hug yourself

remember a happy moment

give something

stretch

love

read that book

breathe

smile

And here is the perfect poem to read and enjoy…

Slow Dance

by David L Weatherford
Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask “How are you?”, do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a friendship die,
’cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
it’s like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life isn’t a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before your song is over.

Yes, breathe.

And smile. Did you?

Such an elegant poem which made me smile as well as reflect on the day and the week gone by. How much we need to savour each moment, relish the seconds and count our blessings. Thank you for this, Vidya.

Love this, Vidya. I’ve been a bit depressed this week and haven’t been writing much the past couple of days. Your post and that uplifting poem make me feel better. Thanks.

Just yesterday I was talking to a friend whose mum has been diagnosed with cancer and this is exactly what she regretted… Not taking time to enjoy all what life has to offer. We assume we will have all the time in the world for the people and things that make us happy and we end up never making time for them. Lovely post Vidya.

Loved your post and the poem. The last two lines sum it all up so beautifully, “Life isn’t a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before your song is over.”

Super post. Great tips and lovely poem. I started posting daily thoughts on my facebook page and the first one was “Life is not a race, slow down”. The last verse of the poem made me smile.

Beautiful post Vidya.

All of your list resonated with me. I think the strongest one though was forgive someone even if they’re not sorry. So often we wait for someone else to apologize and hold that anger in and it just makes us more miserable. Both sides tend to want the other to apologize first. Being the one to step up and forgive another and move on is so important to being a healthy and strong person.

I hope you are enjoying the month of posting so far.
