Because every moment matters

Every moment matters. And it’s always the little things that add up to make life brighter!

As I drifted between fever and being awake, I kept thinking that I really don’t have much to report this month as a roundup for the Gratitude Circle blog hop, until I realized I did! Every moment matters, right?

Not all the things were little, I don’t want to mention details about those anyway. Who wants to read details about the endless hospital visits? Right?

I really wanted to publish this yesterday during one of my “windows” between fevers, but I didn’t get anywhere near the laptop.

So here’s what I am grateful for!

First on the list, naturally, is the joy of my son arriving for the summer vacation. Not so much vacation for him, as he has to rigorously prepare for exams and work on his summer project–but still. Presence is a present. And I am obviously enjoying his. The happiness of seeing him at home = priceless. So grateful for that.

I was invited to attend the launch of a new kid’s show on Sonic Nick called “Golmaal Junior” by Rohit Shetty (of the Golmaal and Singham fame) and it was great fun! Had a wonderful day!

Apart from that, we’ve been taking turns falling sick at home. Currently, it is my turn. Son is recovering. Grateful we have a doctor to go to, although it’s a long road for my husband with ongoing health issues. Yesterday, when we walked back from the clinic, I was happy to notice all those little things on the way, such as:

  • A clothesline with babies’ clothes. So cute. I got so caught up with admiring it that I forgot to take a pic.
  • Two ancient banyan trees we’ve always enjoyed walking through. Yes – through. They flank one of the community parks and seem like they’re built in. I always wonder what stories they might have to tell. And of course, I saw a couple of college kids huddling and whispering in the park, skipping classes obviously.
  • Summer is here and it’s time for the pavement to be filled with varieties of mangoes and watermelons. It is fun to eavesdrop on people bargaining with these guys.
  • Of course, the flower sellers in the area compete with them, filling the air with the fragrance of jasmine and champa. Literally like a homecoming, you know, every time I walk through the area.
  • I always enjoy passing the construction sites in our area–there’s a lot going on and one particular place has a few kids – toddlers. Such joy to watch them playing. Another one is almost complete and soon the child there will move to another place with her parents. Is it weird that we miss people we don’t know–yet see every day? I am putting together a care package to gift them, which I’ll do in the next couple of days.

Three days into the ‘flu, and I am focusing on resting, besides eating and cooking. I binge-watched Grey’s Anatomy, one of my favorite shows. I also sat with my Mom’s diary—something I really enjoy reading—no matter how many times I read it, it always feels like a giant hug. Her writing is like a conversation and evokes a lot of laughter, something I definitely miss all the time. Sigh. Gone too soon. But I am grateful for the memories.

With the focus being on getting back to health this month, not much work got accomplished. Although I did receive a lovely note of appreciation from the author I am working with presently. Makes my work so worthwhile.

I’ve also been walking regularly, in spite of all the glitches. And I was pleasantly surprised to find I’d lost a kilo in the last three months. What? Progress is progress even if it is tiny!

Oh, I did wander around our backyard taking photos one day.


In other news, I have enrolled in an 8-week diabetes challenge and although I haven’t exactly been able to keep up with all the mandatory tasks, it has definitely helped me be more conscious about my routine. For that, I am grateful. Also, managing diabetes is more or less a lifetime challenge, so I guess I am in a good place. Just keeping fingers crossed about my blood tests in a couple of weeks.

I am grateful for everything!

Sorry to hear about the health woes. Is all good now? I wish that you feel stronger soon.
Good to know Vidur is home. Must be so good to have him around. So what if it’s busy time for him. I remember being home on semester breaks was such a joy. Those jackfruits and baby jackfruit look so cute. Tell me more about the care package and what all you put in them. I would like to do that too. Sometimes I feel they don’t have a place to call home. They move from building to building but can’t call those tents a real home.

You are right Vidya, fighting Diabetes is a lifelong battle. My Mother is doing pretty good in maintaining it from last so many years now. Hope you guys recover quickly. BTW what do you put in a care package for them?

Aww your mom’s diaries sound so good Vidya – what a wonderful thing to have of hers. Hope it brings you lot of love and joy to go through them.

The care package sounds interesting – do tell what you will be putting into them. I have so many sites near my house and maybe I could make some for these guys too. Its such a thoughtful gesture- thank you for the inspiration V.

Hugs, Vidya. I hope you are well by now. Having Vidur at home must’ve been such a nice change. 🙂 It’s my Kanna’s summer holidays here. I am not able to pay attention to my work with him at home, but it’s always good to have him around. 🙂
