Manifesting – Getting what you wish for

There was a time I would scoff at the concept of manifesting. My earliest introduction to it was from my grandmother, who always insisted that each one of us has a guardian angel sitting on our shoulder, listening to our thoughts, waiting to make our wishes come true. It follows from this that we must be careful what we wish for because who knows – we might get what we want! She may have had something to do with my perpetual optimism.

Gradually, I found there’s truth in what she said. Years later, my Grade 11 Physics lecturer taught us about focusing and manifesting what we wanted. She’d say, if you want to meet someone and had no way to contact them, just sit and concentrate, think about them and they would appear, or at the very least, get in touch.

So just for fun, we would experiment. And we were shocked to find that she was right more times than I care to remember. Okay, so you have to be a little realistic, unlike my nephew who wished to see God. Well, he did – but he wasn’t convinced.

What is funny is, that we are non-believers and skeptics about most things that require faith – until we have proof – and personal experience. If it is something that matters to us a great deal, we stop becoming non-believers overnight. This has happened to me more times than I’d care to count.

What is interesting is, that manifesting ties in strongly with self-confidence and a positive attitude. When we expect a particular outcome, we put in proportional effort. Even today, when I was waiting at my son’s school, I was smiling to hear the student sharing the “thought for the day” and talking about the importance of positive thinking. What a difference it makes to expect what you want – you do everything in your power to get it, either way.

More recently, in my own life, I’ve been stunned at what I’ve wished for – and got. My Mom would insist that “intuition” influences manifesting a lot – and I would tend to agree.

What happens, I think, is this: we aim for something, we work towards getting the results we want. Being successful increases our self-confidence. We know what we are capable of, and success motivates us to aim higher. Then we believe we can do more and this strengthens our ability to manifest.

It is a lot like a smile you know? You frown and your chances of looking approachable are nil (unless whoever approaches you loves frowns). You smile and you attract smiles. Manifesting is like that. The universe plays a role, too. When we focus our energies on something, we attract it.

I’ve had amusing wishes granted by the Universe – seemingly out of the blue.

I’d wish for a book and I’d get it.
I’d wish I were doing something for a client, and they’d get in touch with me.
I wished for a particular kind of work I wished I was doing, and sure enough, less than two hours later, I received an offer.

There are lots of examples I can give you – but you get the idea. And oh yes, it feels very, very good. And it is no secret I believe in miracles *wink*.

I had the privilege of taking A Course In Miracles last year, which teaches that on some level, we’ve asked for everything that happens in our life. Our intentions create our reality – quite in sync with my grandmother’s words. (of course she’s my authority!).

What brought on this musing about manifesting? Just two days ago, I received a book – Mastering Manifestation by Adam James. Fascinating! The book has received rave reviews and you’ll see why when you read it.

Manifesting

I think it is amazing of Adam to do this five-day promo and I recommend you read the book. It’s about the subconscious mind, reality creation, and self-mastery – and I think you’ll enjoy the book. The power of our minds is limitless!

Mastering Manifestation: A Practical System For Rapidly Creating Your Dream Reality by Adam James appeals to me because he talks about ditching limiting beliefs, zap resistance to change, the power of affirmations, and more, to live the life of your dreams. The book is a compilation of the best tools and techniques on how to optimize your mindset and achieve your biggest goals.

Now, question for you:

What is your experience with manifesting?

(And yes – I know some of you are thinking about the Law of Attraction!)

I love the concept of manifestation and yes I believe in it. Call me a loony, I don’t care, but some magical things have unfolded when I began to believe in the powers of manifestation.

I truly believe that manifesting is real… The article is so well written, Vidya, as always! I am going through a down time right now and you have lifted my spirits! Miss you!!

Dear Cher, I miss you too! Today, I was thinking of you as I walked on my terrace. ♥ Hugs! Everything is going to be okay! I am so happy you came over!

I believe in ‘manifesting’ in what may be called a typical Libran (logic, logic, logic!) way: when the heart desperately desires something, the brain somehow finds a way to get it.

Something like the concept of Rhonda Brynes “the Secret”, isn’t it? And yes, I too actually have found this to be true. Last year especially, I was in the dumps in a big way and I just kept thinking of positive things I wanted to bring into my life.
Against ridiculous odds, I got almost all of them and even more… it made me a believer for life.

I truly believe in it!! It is like The Secret. And Reiki also is all about visualizing positive things. And guess what, just to see its magic once again, while reading your post, I focused on something and it happened a few minutes later!! I am beaming as I type this!! Thank YOU 🙂 🙂

I so believe in Manifestation, yes very much like ‘The Secret’ and have seen it actually come true too! But sometimes you need a reminder like this beautiful post Vidya. For long I had my mind and spirit channeled to something but today I got the news that it’s not going to happen. I was really bummed about it 🙁 I have now however taken it in and using the logic ‘whatever happens for good’ made peace with the news. Sigh! So anyway, thanks for this and I’ll try and read this book! Lv

True !These days, I’ve been experiencing it in some form or the other 🙂 Thanks for sharing this here, Vidya. There’s so much power in our minds, just that we need to know how to use it to manifest the things we want ! 🙂

And that’s true….you have to believe in it so much that it has no choice but to come true!

Thanks Vidya for this review and for sharing this book. I picked it up and already read what feels like the most powerful chapter in the book – the power of visualization. I have a feeling it only gets better.

Oh, yes, I love manifesting. My son is an amazing manifester because he has utter trust in the process and in the flow of life – even when I might have doubt, he trusts, it is amazing to see and experience!

When we speak of manifesting, we speak of positive, yes – also when you are centered, your thoughts are so *powerful* you can manifest negative if you think of it (thus, the be careful what you wish for saying). If you think of all of the things that can go wrong, lots of it most likely will…so it’s much more *fun* to think of all that can go right. Positive thoughts not only “feel good” they open heart space and that is the space of miracles/synchronicity/magic.

The ebook sounds *amazing*! And, thank you so very much for the link to my class – it’s kind of fun to manifest money together (although part of it does have to do with awareness of internal blocks, which can require a bit of an “shift”).

I picked up this book for three dollars yesterday and read it in a couple of hours. While what Adam says is true and the methods he recommends are long standing (Ramana Maharishi, Theata Healing, EFT, Abraham and others) he’s put them together in such a way as to both guide the reader effectively and to confuse — depending on what you already know and experience.

The less than scholarly or gifted writing leaves a ravishing reader to question Adam’s credibility. While moving into the book, one quickly sees where all the high reviews come from (he offers a discount to his class if you give him one). This takes one further away from credibility.

I’m going to try his good recipe for a couple of weeks and will report back. I already have manifested enought and know the techniques well enough to afford his added class, but I don’t think it will add anything (for me) beyond his nice recipe for removing blocks and turning a sub personality toward more favorable outcomes.

What would convince me to do more with Adam would be a well written book with appropriately cited resources that show he’s not plagiarizing — and even more, some personal examples of these master manifestation outcomes he claims, but for which we have no examples. The high ratings are really discredited because they are there for the discount people want.

Summary: The book is worth a few bucks just for another approach to the same thing we’re all trying to do. Then again, it offers less that hoped because it’s not truly inspired from source. Either way, I hope everyone gets more joy from whatever they try.

Thank you for your insightful comment and review of the book, Dr.V. I did not write a book review as my perception of manifestation was inculcated by my Grandmother and my teachers and I prefer to believe it that. Still, Adam’s book has a few good points – which is why I mentioned it in my post so readers could form their own opinion. Manifestation is such a vast and wonderful subject. I am yet to find a fantastic book I’d like to buy. I am happy you visited and commented.

I believe n manifestions too though it takes me time and again to re-believe in it. But I have had a call or messagae from someone I was thinking about; or just bumped into them randomly – all because I had been thinking about them. And yes intuition does guide us in this process.
Loved reading this post Vidya – thank you for reminding me to believe in magic!!!! 🙂

Great Article! Thank you for reminding us the key elements to become successful in our own way. I never understood the gratitude and it clicked recently as I was working with one specific group in my town. Thank you for sharing your blog.
