Mission Collecting Smiles #AtoZChallenge

The A to Z Challenge
is just around the corner
I’d so love to do it
I swear upon my honor

This is my fifth year
Laughing from A to Z
How could I not be here
And set my words free?

I have no computer
Nor is my internet stable
My work is all but gone
Morose, I sit at the table

I couldn’t access my blog
I sought my friend’s help
To keep up with my editorial log
Or else I’d only yelp

I felt so listless
I thought, is this the end
I cried, I agonized
Almost went around the bend

Then came a ray of hope
In the form of my son
Mom, don’t you mope
He said, you’re the original cool ‘un

I’d love to believe him
And his words that heal
But no matter how hard I try
I can’t help how I feel

Loss of this magnitude
is so hard to take
All my data’s fried
And joy is hard to fake

Hey Mom, said my son
I think you need a break
Forget what’s lost
It is time to awake

Look here, Mom, he said,
It is time to walk the talk
Chin up and move ahead
Buck up, now take stock

Maybe he’s right, I thought,
I must escape my blues
Let me focus on what I’ve got
Oh dear, but I need some clues

I heard my Mom’s voice
“Bounce back” she said to me,
“Because you have a choice
I know you better than thee”

You can, you will, you must
Snap out of that rut
In yourself, please do trust
You know you’ll make the cut

If ‘Plan A’ didn’t work, the alphabet has 25 more letters. I just added one more!

So yes, I’ll try my best
To stick to the A to Z schedule
I know it is a test
But I can be a mule

Next comes the question
To theme or not to theme
I think I’ll take a tip from Fate
and hatch a little scheme

So here’s what I hope to do
Ignore the lows and highs
To my own self I’ll be true
My theme? It’s a Surprise!

I hope you enjoy each post
I promise to keep it short
I know I’ll enjoy playing host
With coffee, at least a quart!

There’ll be stories, some humor
A guest post or three
Perhaps some book reviews
Oh, I am so excited now, whee!

Via my favorite topics
I’ll be collecting smiles
We’ll go places, we’ll see pics
Yes, we’ll travel miles

No entry for ranting
I refuse to complain
I’d rather be chanting
My mindfulness refrain!

Join me, won’t you?
Coffee and snacks WILL be served.

And that’s my AtoZChallenge Theme Reveal!

desiderata

My dear friends, life, as I know it, has changed. Lightning struck, literally and I lost my computer, my hard disks and all my data, among other things. That’s not all. I am having a series of mishaps. I am trying to pick up the pieces. I am trying to focus on what I have, not what I’ve lost.

It is hard. But I am trying harder.

Encourage me, won’t you? Let’s collect smiles together.

Today is World Poetry Day (thus declared by the UNESCO in 1999). Hence the verse.

Are you doing the AtoZ Challenge 2017? Let me know. Let’s buddy up!

Thank you Shalini! I am counting on your support. My system is still not up and I find it really hard to manage on a phone and a freaky laptop. I’ve resorted to planning with my spirally bound notebook and set of pens! Hugs! Looking forward to my Thailand trip with you!

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | March 29, 2017

Thank you Shinjini. I am afraid I am starting on a clean slate as far as my data loss is concerned. No hope, apparently. Unless I am ready to spend a fortune, which I don’t have. Hugs! I am looking forward to the tools and techniques you’ll be sharing!

  10. kalpanaa kalpanaa March 22, 2017

That sounds like a lot – to lose your computer AND your hard discs. Plus you say you have other challenges. Big hug to you and from what I know of you, you’ll find a way to turn this into an encouragement for all who read you. Looking forward to your surprises.

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | March 29, 2017

Love the poem, your spirit and you , Vidya!
Hope you manage to get your data and computer in order. Like many others, I look forward to reading your posts through April!:)

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | March 29, 2017

Working on getting a new system, Mayuri. As for the data loss, no light yet. It is too expensive to go to a data recovery professional. Thank you so much for your encouraging words!

Bless your heart. I am so sorry about your difficulties. Your son is a blessing you very much deserve. See you in the challenge! I’m revisiting last year’s music theme with a new twist. Now I think I’ll take a cue from your difficulties and backup my data to an external hard drive today. Be well!

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | March 29, 2017

I am staying sane, thanks to his visit, Darla! I am loving your theme this year, too! Yes, please–do back up that data! Hugs!

  15. Suzy Suzy March 23, 2017

  16. Wendy of The Rock Wendy of The Rock March 23, 2017

Doing things a bit tough here too. My daughter catches the bus home from school from a stop on Westminster Bridge. She heard the shots and saw the aftermath of the terrorist attack. Thank the Gods that she is safe. She was just seconds away from direct involvement. Gratitude abounding.
I am prevaricating about doing the A-Z … I don’t have a theme and I haven’t really paid close attention to how the new posting system works. I am unsure. I had all sorts of ideas but have gone cold…

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | March 23, 2017

Oh gosh, Wendy! That’s so scary. I went cold all over reading what you wrote. So glad she’s safe. I can’t imagine the shock she must have felt. Hugs to you!

You MUST do the AtoZ. I am looking forward to your posts…and fondly remember how we met the year before last! Think you can…and the ideas will simply rush back. Write about life…you have such amazing subtle humor!

      • Wendy Wendy March 30, 2017

Vidya I am not social media competent like you… Could you break down the A-z Posting technique into simple steps… write them in pencil if that helps

        • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | March 30, 2017

Hi Wendy! Not sure what you mean. See below the posting calendar for 2017. Also, this year, no sign up list, as you know. However, you can add your post for the day to the AtoZChallenge Facebook page thread for the alphabet of the day and also on the A to Z Challenge blog, as they’ll have a post for the alphabet of the day. So, to visit others in the challenge, you’ll either have to visit the atoz blog or their facebook page to see the entries. As for sharing posts on social media, use the hashtag #AtoZChallenge and tag @AprilA2Z to have them share your posts. Did I make sense? AtoZChallenge 2017 posting calendar
