Blogging Betties. Are You One?

Day 2 of the #AtoZChallenge has me at B and it is B for Blogging Betties!

Every once in a blue moon (there, I got a B word in!) I fall in love at first sight. Okay, so of late I’ve been seeing a series of blue moons in my life. Truth. And so it was when I met Tammy Soong of Worlds Worst Moms a few months ago, via my lovely sis Vanita Cyril. Tammy enthralls with her writing. If I were asked to show an example for “writing with heart” it would be hers.

Tammy Soong is a writer, wife, and mom from Reno, Nevada. She takes an absurd amount of pain medication, but not enough to have actually named her children “Newt” and “Elfie.” She spends most days stressing out over clutter, writing stuff for her blog, and working on podcasts with her gal pals, the Blogging Betties.

But that is not all. See my awesome fall-in-love-with header? Tammy is the artist who created it. And Vanita made it look fab on this blog. I am indebted to them and have promised to give them my first-born hand over half my kingdom (when I have one).

Please may I hear applause for Tammy and Vanita? Thanks!

Over to ya, Tammy!

When Vidya asked me to guest post and said I could have “B,” I thought, well dang, this worked out well. See, I just started a podcast called The Blogging Betties with my two gal pals, Vanita Cyril and Poppy Marler. Every week we talk shop and interview awesome bloggers from around the sphere. Not sure you’d like it? Maybe run through this quick list to find out…

Blogging Betties

You may be a Blogging Betty if:

1. You check your email, Facebook, or Twitter feed in the morning before you check your children.

2. The school sends you an article on “How to limit screen time at home,” and you realize the only person in the house who really needs to “work on that” is you.

3. Every time you take a picture, your kid asks, “Are you gonna post that?”

4. Your friends are afraid to have lunch with you because they know they’ll end up in your blog.

5. You clean up the mess around a mess before you take a photo of it so it’ll be more pinnable.

6. You write a post called, “Blog Stats Don’t Make the Blogger,” and then obsessively check the stats on it.

7. You’re the “techy-est” person in your house.

8. The number of times you’ve promised yourself you’ll “get to bed early tonight” directly correlates with the number of days you’ve been blogging.

9. Unlike the “regular” people you know IRL, you actually spend time on Google+.

10. When someone mentions “Alexa,” you immediately think of a number, not a kid from your daughter’s class or the mis-pronounced name of an old character on Dynasty.

So, think you’re a Betty? Come check out the Blogging Betties Podcast. We do a new show every Tuesday and have great posts on the blog in-between. And we’re cheap and easy! The podcast is free, and you can download it and take anywhere (that’s what you were thinking when I said “cheap and easy,” right?).

You can also find us on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and, of course, the almighty Google+

Thanks for letting me hang out with you today! Bye bye Betties!

Thank you Tammy!

And oh, guys can be Blogging Betties too!

What do you think? Are you a Blogging Betty?

The Blogging Betties Podcast is where veteran bloggers/gal pals Poppy, Tammy, and Vanita share all the tips, tricks, and tools you’ll need to navigate the blogosphere. Each week they bring in top bloggers to tell their stories, spill their best secrets, and share their past screw-ups. Get ready to make your mark — the Blogging Betties are here to help.

To the best of my knowledge, I’m not a Blogging Betty!

Of course, after I started blogging, a few friends were concerned about sharing any spicy information with me, but were relieved when I assured them that:
    a. Any information will be shared on my blog only after the source agrees.
    b. I normally change names, places and some other details.
    c. If there is even a remote possibility that the subject could be controversial, I send the person concerned the final draft of my blog post for approval.

😀 Pro, I love how you take everything seriously.
But seriously, social media is trying her best to make everyone a BB! 😀
Thank you for almost always being the first to comment!

Uh-oh — I think I am in trouble. My priorities are definitely changing since I started blogging. One of those priorities is reading and commenting on posts from people all over the world that I have never met and yet they have become friends!

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | April 2, 2014

True, Carol! I am loving the connections, too! Loved your post today! Hugs!

  4. Betty Betty April 2, 2014

Of course I’m a Blogging Betty since my name is Betty 🙂 I’m halfway a Blogging Betty; my mind is somewhat always thinking of blog posts but since I don’t blog a lot of personal things or family things, my family feels they are pretty safe around me and I never post pictures of our family other than our dog, so again no one minds getting their picture taken 🙂

    betty

Yeah well I’m there partly. The kids do ask.. Are you going to put it up. In fact that’s my favourite threat when they’re being ‘not good’.. When they’re messy or roaming around in stages of undress or sulking! Such fun it is! Cheap thrills of motherhood.

I’m protective of my family. So I don’t put photos of them on the Net for the public to view. (Only once-in-awhile on my private Facebook page.) However, I can relate to some of the other points you make.

  29. Tina Downey Tina Downey April 2, 2014

I am a blogging betty. I think there’s only one that doesn’t apply to me…I’m not the techy-est. That would be all the rest of my world, The Engineer, and my two teens who can make any electronic device do anything they want and they have them all hooked together! Yikes…and I have Jeremy for the techy side of my blog and my Life is Good fb page…but I AM learning!
    Have a great Challenge, Vidya.

  31. debi o'neille debi o'neille April 2, 2014

I wouldn’t say I’m a blogging Betty, but sometimes I’m a little bit of a blogging buddy. I can especially relate to the part about friends being afraid they’ll end up in a blog. I don’t have that problem, but my husband has told me more than once that he better ‘not’ ever appear in my blog. (I used to write a column for a newspaper, and he showed up as the subject of comedy quite often.) So anyway, he’s not in any of my A-Z blog posts, but be watching for a handsome hero wrestling a bear to protect his fair maiden – in a future post.

  34. Melanie Melanie April 2, 2014

Oh, not a Blogging Betty (don’t have children so can’t check on them first or second, really never take pictures…) The lack of these things are saving me from being a blogging betty so that I have more time to sit on the computer!

    • Vidya Sury Vidya Sury Post author | April 2, 2014

You and I both, Melanie! Yes, I have a son…but am not a 100% betty! Thanks for dropping by!

LOL I am definitely a “Blogging Betty”! 😀 My husband has no use for computers and doesn’t understand my addiction at all. To think, before Dec. 2008, I felt the same way but then, my elderly father bought me a laptop for Christmas and the rest is history. Sounds like fun and I’ll check this out.

  46. Urthwild Urthwild April 3, 2014

This is something I would do.
