Today’s Wednesday Wisdom is all about the menu and meal planning.
Meal planning—at least for me—is fun. I love to make a food time-table for the week.
As I work from home, this is sensible as it helps me organize my grocery lists and shopping. It helps me manage my time better when I plan. There are enough distractions when working from home without the “what to eat” challenge at mealtimes. Also, being a diabetic, my menu is one of my precious tools in managing my blood sugar levels.
But wait.
We also need food for our soul, right?
That’s where this lovely menu for a fulfilling life comes in.
Of course, plenty of choice, as any good menu is expected to be.
This menu has starters, a main course and naturally, dessert.
It’s a buffet! Help yourself. Feel free to pick as many items as you like.
Starters
Choose at least two.
- Wake up earlier than usual. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you’re up 30 minutes before your usual time.
- Try to exercise at least thirty minutes a day. You could walk, take the stairs, walk your pet, exercise at your desk…you figure it out. Break a sweat. (This one’s compulsory)
- Meditate, sit quietly, or do yoga—whatever works for you.
- Get enough sleep.
The main course
Choose four.
- Dress well. Invest in yourself. Your chances of success are better. Like it or not, appearances do make an impression.
- If you can’t handle it, seek help. Outsource. It is perfectly fine to delegate—because, less stress.
- Cut down on mobile time. You’ll be surprised how much time you save. Time better spent on more productive things.
- Reflect: what have you been putting off for a while? What decision have you been afraid to make? Pick one of those things and deal with it. Today. Perhaps, now.
- Practice creativity. Give your brain some exercise. Maybe take up a hobby, a sport, enjoy music, dancing, gift your time to someone, play with kids…and so on.
Dessert
Just go ahead and indulge in all of these!
- Plan and go on vacation at least twice a year.
- Pledge to spend time with family or friends at least once a week.
- Pick up a new hobby/interest. Can be as easy as catching up on your reading or taking up a reading challenge.
- Smile often. Consciously.
- Enjoy a movie or a play at least once a month.
- Learn a new language.
- Got unfinished business? Decide on whether it is still worth tackling. If yes, do it. If no, ditch it.
- Donate, discard or recycle. Make space for fresh things.
- Been meaning to call/visit that friend for a while? Do it now.
- Laugh often. It is still the best medicine! Catch your favorite comedy show.
Isn’t that nice?

Woo Hoo! That was tricky. When I read the post title and started reading initially, I was seriously hoping for some real menu stuff!
You got me! But as usual, it was fun to read. I agree that getting up and dressing everyday does make a big impact on us and even to our near ones. It does feel so good to look presentable anytime. I remember in my younger days, all the elderly ladies in my place used to look good and all ready everyday even if they were just housewives. Now, as a think about it, it does make one feel positive.
Learning a new language or learning anything new itself, makes one feel so good. I am a believer in life long learning. We, as humans, are constant learners. We learn at each stage – through our teachers, parents, children, friends, others, everyone!
Also, it is really important to have a hobby or do something which interests you. Another important one – smile often. Say good morning or good evening to your helpers/security guards/cleaners/your family. It is something simple but it can make that moment beautiful with so much of positivity when you wish their morning or evening to be good or great!
I was grinning by the time I reached to the part of the desert. great post totally loved it to the core. it’s the right recipe for a great life if we could find a way to follow it.

I’m terrible with meal planning with food… so you can imagine that I’m really bad with soul food. This is a great list of ideas to incorporate into daily life. I simply love this idea!
I love this idea of a menu for our soul! I have actually been trying to get up earlier so I can check my email and do some quick blog stuff before I get ready for work. This way when I get home from work, it is one less thing I am rushing around to do. I am terrible at planning for the main course! I was starting to get nicer clothing that made me feel good, but then we switched to uniforms at work – which I actually do like – It helps me get ready really quickly in the morning. I am terrible at asking for help – it is something I really need to work on.
